Yesterday afternoon I went down to Free Times Cafe to check out an Open Mic and was pleased to be able to perform for the room. It was a full house and my first time on the Free Times stage which in itself was a big treat, but better still was the fact that a couple of musicians also there to perform were happy to hop into anyone else’s set with accompanying fiddle, bass and cajon, harmonica or even flute!
It was a great surprise to me when I recognized that the fiddler was one I’d happen to have met at last years Winterfolk music festival where I was volunteering as the live sound tech for the St. Stephen’s stage; Brian Morgan. If you ever spot that name on a convert bill, make sure you get a ticket – he’s great.
So I jumped at the opportunity to have him perform with me and invited bassist Lynda Kraar and drummer Jaime Valentine on board, too.
The result is a very very cool folk-country rendition of Girls Like Me that has me absolutely jonesing to start a country band.
Everything was on the fly and there are some awesome moments throughout, so check out the video below and let me know what you think!
Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven’t already because there’s a lot more there and even more to come 🙂
Girls Like Me is the first single from my upcoming album Foxchase and will arrive to streaming services on February 13th, so make sure you follow me wherever you stream stuff so that it hits your release radar!
