About the Record: Foxchase – Butterflies

Butterflies is another track originally first recorded and heard on Jestem Krzywym Lasem. That EP is sort of the ultra-condensed short-story version of this album and of course I encourage you to give it a listen if you haven’t yet.

Despite the cute title, Butterflies is all about anxiety, fear and the way we sometimes become a prisoner of our own minds. I depict it as a war zone, an idea originally stemming from the tours Sean would briefly tell me about during his military service and from the ongoing battles I’d witness on the news; That and school shootings were a big inspiration for a lot of the imagery in the latter half of this one.

It can be really hard to think clearly when you’re in this type of heavy fight or flight headspace. It’s interesting to think about the way you’d react to certain situations, but until you’re in the thick of it all you don’t really know what you’d do. It’s easy for us to sit back and watch someone else go through something and think, “wow, why didn’t they see that coming? If I were them I would’ve done it this way instead,” and I think that’s all fine and well to just hypothesize about, but it’s really important we maintain enough understanding that hindsight or outsider perspective is a whole other animal entirely.

Neither Could Dylan – Butterflies (Official Audio)

Official Lyrics:
It’s a little lost on me
Why you’re here
On this date
At this hour
Catch your footing
Pull up a chair
Do you feel that?
Wings aflutter

Particles dismissed
Hangtime in air
An ambush without a plan
A faulty flare

Full fledged attack
Retreat, get back
Distract
Bullets through the glass
Heat rising from the friction
Hesitation
Another impact
Repeat, get back

Frayed bristles
A fallen rope
An open window
A steady scope

Particles dismissed
Hangtime in air
Friendly fire
A faulty flare
