About the Record: Foxchase – Moonlight

In Moonlight, we step directly into the moment when you realize that it’s time for a major shift. In this case it takes on the form of an overdue break-up where neither of you are quite right for each other.

Even when we know this about our relationships, letting go of what you thought you once had or what you hoped it could have been can be hard to deal with and I go back and forth about that throughout this song.

On a more literal note it’s depicting a car crash, the result of a distracted driver and passenger alike. The aftermath of this accident and all the things that led to it are ultimately what hover and follow us as we try to make sense of things with our newfound distance and perspective.

I like to believe that as long as we learn from these situations and don’t continue to make the same mistakes then it’s not all for nothing and they are an important stepping stone to something greater; Something we sort of have to go through to gain a full understanding of ourselves and our needs.

But because it sometimes takes a lot longer than we think it should to get to where we want to be or who we want to be with, I leave this song still feeling a little unsure if I’ve made the right choices or done enough of the work required within myself to get there.

In any case, we seem to be making subtle progress, so let’s keep going.

Neither Could Dylan – Moonlight (Official Audio)

Official Lyrics:
Pale as the moonlight encasing the lake
The colour at once falls from my face
You whisper and I agree it’s late
As your arms loosen so does the weight

You watch the streetlights
I mind the dial
We’re skirting the road lines
But it’s okay cause it’s quiet

You check in and I hesitate
“There’s a sharp turn ahead,”
I deflate

I never really know what to say
When it’s unclear if they’re right for me

It’s the end of summer
But it feels more like spring
The air is crisp and it’s always raining
I swear these clouds just follow me
Don’t they ever have anywhere else to be
It’s funny, that’s what you’d say about me

I’m getting used to staying in
I’m getting comfortable with the phrase ‘it’s the way that it is’
I don’t think about you as much as I used to
And those cuts from that night are starting to heal

I still don’t really know what to say
When it’s unclear if they’re right for me
